What is HIC Plate ?

HIC Plates are often known as Hydrogen induced cracking plates that are highly resistant steel plates basically designed to operate in sour service atmospheres. On the other hand, HIC resistant steel is carbon steel plate that demonstrates superior resistance to hydrogen induced cracking.

These HIC resistant plates meet all the standard prerequisites of the grades. Therefore these grades of plates are generally used in oil, gas and petrochemical industries where hydrogen induced cracking is a big risk. These plates are tested specifically to evaluate the susceptibility of the material to HIC. The plates exhibit superior resistance to crevice, stress corrosion cracking and pitting corrosion at soaring temperatures.

By controlling the quantity of hydrogen that is picked up in the processing sequence of the material ensures to raise the longevity of the plates. The plates excellently retain internal temperature/ pressure to the ambient temperature/pressure. This grade of plates shows superior toughness, hardness and resistance consistency at elevated temperatures. However, the plates are more prone to hydrogen sulfide corrosion in wet H2S and in sour service atmospheres. The plates possess excellent durability and versatility.

The plates are not strengthened by heat treatment however the strengthening of the plates is achieved through the cold working process. The carbon content offers outstanding ductility, hardness, and tensile strength. Furthermore, these ensure superior resistance to oxidation and retain acidic attacks in tough climatic circumstances.
